What Is Janta Curfew And Why It Is Important?

“We will not leave our houses, go to the streets or walk in our society or our areas during the Janta curfew,” said PM Modi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, March 19, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, urged people to follow a “Janata curfew” on Sunday, March 22. He said that everyone would stay at home on Sunday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

“Only people who are involved in emergencies and essential services can leave their homes, but they should observe this curfew at 7 am till 9 pm this Sunday that is the 22nd March when we either leave our house, do not go to the street and do not go roaming around in our societies and regions,” says PM Modi.

what does Janta Curfew mean?

  • Janta Curfew is a curfew that residents must impose on themselves on Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • PM Modi urged people to stay indoors. He also requested people to refrain from going to public places on Sunday, 22 March.
  • People working in emergency services such as the police, social care, newspapers, home delivery, firefighting and service of the nation, etc. will be exempt from the Janta Curfew.
  • The PM also asked all residents to stand at their doorstep and clap for people serving in vital services at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday to respect their services at the time of coronavirus.

Amid 173 cases of novel coronavirus reported from India, the PM’s address to the nation. In an address to the nation, the Prime Minister said that coronavirus affected more countries than the First and Second World Wars. He said the Sunday exercise would help people become aware of themselves. People get accustomed to isolating themselves. “I want your time for the next few weeks,” he said.

“There’s no cure for this, so we must stay healthy. We have to avoid people and stay at home. Social distancing is important. If you think you can walk around as normal and believe that you won’t be at risk, this is wrong, you and your family are endangered,” he said. In addition, the Prime Minister also appealed to people to avoid panic buying and hoarding. “I want to ensure every step is taken to make sure that no supply of milk and pharmaceuticals and food stops. Don’t hoard, be responsive to other people,” he said.
