History Of Dhanteras

The ritual of purchasing gold items on Dhanteras is associated with many legends. It is said that Yamraj had taken the form of a snake and had come to take the son of King Hima. The gold jewelry, silvery coins, and diyas were put into the room by his daughter-in-law. Yamraj ‘s eyes were blinded by this and he returned without the King’s son. Thus, buying gold and silver jewelry on this day is believed to shield a person from bad luck.
