Before the invention of modern pregnancy test kit home method is used to check the pregnancy, as at that time they had no access to available pregnancy kit and they have to depend on primitive methods.

Today also a lot of homemade pregnancy test is used as they are easy to use and also things are available at home which can be used for the test.

Benefits of Homemade (DIY) Pregnancy Test:

  • Some women feel embarrassed to ask for pregnancy kit on shops so this is the best way to check.
  • These are cheaper as compare to the modern pregnancy test kit.
  • The pregnancy kit has its shelf life, so you don’t have to worry about the life of the pregnancy kit.
  • These tests can be done with the things available at home.

DIY  pregnancy tests that can be easily done at home with available items:

  • Sugar Test: It’s the most popular pregnancy test. For this test You need:
  1. Bowl.
  2. 1 Tablespoon of sugar.
  3. A sample of the first urine.

Method:  Put sugar in a bowl and add one tablespoon of a urine sample on the sugar, Then wait for a few minutes

Result: A pregnant women urine contains hormone HCG ( Human chorionic gonadotropin). This helps in preventing the sugar from dissolving. If you notice that the sugar is not dissolved and form clumps then this is a clear sign of pregnancy
If the sugar dissolves in the urine then it means your urine doesn’t have HCG, which is the clear sign of No pregnancy or Negative Pregnancy.
This test is harmless and doesn’t require any safety measures.

  • Soap Test: Any soap can be used to perform this test regardless of make, color or the type of fragrance. But soap should be big in size and can be held in hands. For this test

You Need:

  1. Bowl.
  2. Soap Bar
  3. A sample of the first urine.

Method: Put the soap bar in the bowl and add two tablespoons of urine n the soap & wait.

Result: If the bubble appears in the soap then it’s a sign of positive pregnancy And if there is no reaction between soap and the urine sample, then it’s likely to be Negative Pregnancy

Mustard Powder Test: Sometimes it happens you missed your periods and if you have a doubt that pregnancy could be the cause of that, then you much go for a mustard powder test for pregnancy as this induce periods. For this test

You Need:

  1. Bathtub with warm water
  2. 1/2-3/4 cups of mustard powder.

Method: Add mustard powder in the bathtub and immerse your body for 20-25 minutes. After that take a shower and wait for 2-3 days.

Result: As mustard induce periods, then you have your periods in 2-3 days after performing a mustard powder test. If the periods don’t kick in, then it’s a sign of Positive Pregnancy.

If the periods kick in then it’s a sign of Negative Pregnancy. Also your period delays because of some other reason.

  • Dettol Test: Dettol can also be used to perform a natural pregnancy test. For this

You Need:

  1. A Glass
  2. One tablespoon of Dettol
  3. A sample of the first urine.

Method:  Take one tablespoon of Dettol in glass and add 3 tablespoons of urine in it. Wait for 5-10 mins.

Result: If Urine and Dettol separated and form layer on top then its a clear sign of Positive Pregnancy

And if Urine and Dettol are mixed and not separated then it’s a Negative Pregnancy.

  • Salt Test: It is the cheapest and very effective ingredient for a pregnancy test. For this test

We Need:

  1. A Glass
  2. Pinch of salt
  3. A sample of the first urine

Method: Pour urine in the glass and add a pinch of salt and wait for 3 minutes.

Result: If a creamy white clump formed then its the sign of Positive Pregnancy And if there is no reaction then it’s Negative Pregnancy

These simple homemade pregnancy tests are quick and easy to perform without taking any safety measures. Also, they are cheaper and natural. There are also some more homemade pregnancy tests which you can also perform:
