How To Fill Generation Gap Between Parents And Child?

How To Fill Generation Gap Between Parents And Child?

The ages between parents and their children are often sufficiently large to undergo their most amazing years in a society that is distinct from each other. Adolescence is often the time when people are most influenced by the society around them. As our world continues to evolve and change, things rarely remain the same, creating a generation gap between parents and child.

What Is A Generation Gap?

Because time is always going forward and change is inevitable, each generation has different values, tastes, and outlook on life. This difference is termed a generation gap. This often resulted in a lack of communication and understanding between the two generations. Since the way society worked during their youth distorted their view of the world.

Why does A Generation Gap Exist?

Here are some of the causes of the generation gap between parents and children:

1. Misunderstanding

Sometimes it seems that different generations speak a different language. Also, their way of thinking and what they find natural seems to be changed due to the changes in culture from when parents are growing up, to how it is in their children’s timing.

2. Mistakes were barely tolerated

Many parents do not accept mistakes and prefer to tell off their children. Children need to make mistakes in order to learn and grow in life, but if they are just punished for it, it will widen the gap and establish a lack of proper communication.

3. Less interaction

Because of the obligations of being an adult and the pressure of working life, parents are often too exhausted to spend enough time with their children every day. This leads to a lack of communication and engagement which raises the gap in a generation.

4. Comparison

Comparing kids with each other or even how you were as a child is another explanation of why the distance gets big. This often causes them to lose self-confidence and can kill any excitement they may have had before.

Tips To Fill The Generation Gap Between Parents And Child

Here are some tips to help to fill the generation gap between parents and child:

1. Communicate

It is very important to take the time to communicate with your children every day. The simple act of talking to each other at the end of the day can make it easier for you to get to know each other and to communicate with each other openly. Kids need to understand that they can approach their parents with anything that will ultimately give parents peace of mind as they don’t have to worry about hiding important things from their kids.

2. Listen

Parents need to allow their children to speak and listen to what they have to say without interruption. Learning the ideas and opinions of your children gives them a feeling of what they want and/or feel, which in turn allows them to feel far closer to you. The parent who listens well, rather than only lectures and talks will encourage your child to listen to you.

3. Keep An Open Mind

The way children think is different from the way parents do it. Parents also believe like, because they’ve already been the age their child is now, they know what their child thinks. The fact is, the world and way of life were different than it is now, and their way of thinking will be very different, and some parents may also be surprising. That’s why it’s so important to keep an open mind and not presume that they have to be just like you were at their age. You also need to understand that there are certain things in society that are acceptable and therefore acceptable to your child that may not have been acceptable when you were the same age.

4. Love

Love has a way to cross boundaries and, if acting on, bring people together. So show how much you love your kids. This unconditional love and support they receive from you is very encouraging and makes kids more inclined to show back that same love and understanding.

5. Compromise

People can disagree about things, regardless of how close they are to each other. But rather than pushing them into your way of thinking and forcing them on when possible to do what you want them to do, parents and children are no different. There are moments when you need to put your foot down with your children, but it will bring them closer to you and make the age difference a little narrower rather than dictating their every step.

The generation gap between parents and child is just what you need if you struggled to have a good relationship with your child. It’s important to know that they have their own ideas and views and being compassionate and caring helps to close a generation gap between parents and child.
